The PAN Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Research Institute Announce New Partnership
WASHINGTON, October 5, 2021—The PAN Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Research Institute today announced they are launching a new partnership to holistically support people living with prostate cancer, as well as their loved ones.
Working together, the PAN Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Research Institute will connect people living with prostate cancer to both financial assistance and support services, helping them focus on their health and well-being.
“Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the U.S. This new partnership will increase the resources we are able to provide to those living with prostate cancer, including a helpline staffed by prostate cancer patients and their caregivers,” said PAN President and CEO Kevin L. Hagan. “Our alliance partnerships continue to help us care for the whole patient, supplementing PAN’s financial assistance with resources to support emotional well-being.”
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. There are nearly 250,000 new cases in the U.S. each year, but it is highly curable when identified at an early stage.
“Prostate cancer is often asymptomatic, so many men are unaware that they have it and a diagnosis could be quite a shock,” said Prostate Cancer Research Institute CEO Alex Scholz. “We believe that patients need connection with others who understand the problems that they encounter to become empowered and educated. They may also need financial support, which is why we are thrilled to partner with the PAN Foundation, making sure that cost doesn’t prevent anyone from starting and staying on a treatment plan.”
Patients who qualify for the PAN Foundation’s Prostate Cancer Assistance Program are eligible to receive $7,100 per year in financial assistance.
Eligibility requirements:
To get financial assistance for prostate cancer, patients must:
Be getting treatment for prostate cancer.
Have Medicare insurance that covers the qualifying medication or product.
Have an income that falls at or below 500 percent of the federal poverty level.
How to apply
Patients or caregivers applying on their behalf can apply for assistance using the PAN Foundation’s online patient portal. To apply on behalf of a patient, providers can use the provider portal, while pharmacy staff can use the pharmacy portal.
A series of how-to guides are also available for the patient portal, including common tasks like creating an account and applying for assistance online. PAN grant recipients may also qualify for transportation assistance to allow them to get to doctor’s appointments and pharmacy visits.
